Walnut Cove homes are taking longer to sell
Here is the number that changes what you should do right now. The Real Estate Data Aggregator counted a median of 48 days on market in Walnut Cove for the three months ending August 31, 2026. That is 22 days longer than the same period in 2025. Homes are still selling, but patience is part of the plan.
Rates are part of the reason. Realtor.com reported mortgage rates climbed above 7% for the first time since January 2025. That slows buyers down. It does not stop them, but it makes them more careful about price.
Not every home is sitting
The Real Estate Data Aggregator shows 25% of Walnut Cove homes went under contract within two weeks of listing. That is down 38.6 points from a year ago, so it is a smaller share than before. Still, one in four homes is moving quickly. The ones that move fast tend to be priced right from the start.
Prices dipped a little
The Real Estate Data Aggregator put the median sale price in Walnut Cove at $260,000 for the three months ending August 31, 2026. That is down 2.3% from the same months in 2025. A small dip, not a collapse. Sellers are still getting 98.6% of their list price on average.
One bright spot: the Real Estate Data Aggregator shows 26.3% of Walnut Cove homes sold above list price, up 2.8 points from a year ago. So well-priced homes are still drawing real interest.
More homes, fewer new listings
The Real Estate Data Aggregator counted 24 homes for sale in Walnut Cove during the period, up 20% from a year ago. At the same time, new listings fell 37.9% to just 18. That means the homes sitting on the market are carrying more of the inventory. Buyers have a little more to choose from than they did last year.
The national picture
Walnut Cove is not alone in feeling this shift. Realtor.com reported that nationally, 20.8% of listings saw a price cut in September 2026, the highest share since October 2022. The Federal Housing Finance Agency reported U.S. home prices rose 2.4% from August 2025 to August 2026, so values are still up year over year across the country, even as local markets like Walnut Cove see small dips.
